Went for my first wrestling class and was paired with a female. When practicing drills (for example, pushing/ pulling each other, escaping from positions, turning her over on the floor) how hard should I go? I feel like if I go 100% she won't be able to escape from anything and won't take me down. I let her "work" a few times by relaxing a bit and letting her get a headlock in etcIs this good etiquette and I should do the same for guys? Or am I cheating them out of learning properly?

If they are drilling something and doing it poorly, don't just let them get it, but don't resist with your full weight/strength. Getting someone to step with a collar tie is no big deal, but landing on someone with a double could end in a rib injury for the smaller person.>Is this good etiquette and I should do the same for guys?There's a right way to go about it. When I train with smaller/weaker people, I just try to focus on being technical and less on weight/strength. This applies to defense too — I will try to counter something if I catch a mistake, but I'm not going to use my full strength. This makes it productive for both training partners. The point of any of this is to avoid injuring someone smaller than you, so just be mindful.

HEMA peaked in 2015. My countrys scene never recovered after Covid and seemingly everyone is trans now. Which is fine but I do miss sparring the sort of guy the new club image chases off. Is it possible to just never get good at a sport?I always wanted to drift. I used to rip the e brake in snow and dirt but I just suck at it. I bought a simulator setup and been using it for years and I never get better. I can barely drift around one wet corner. I just don’t think I can get good at it i never know where the cars gonna go until I hit the throttle and I’m already sliding out of control.

In wrestling it was mainly just trying to pull something until it breaks, there was no technique to submissions. Even the toe hold which was probably one of the more common 1800s wrestling submissions was just pulling the foot in one direction when the opponent was turtled up. The armbar as we know it was only introduced to America around 1905 or something like that. So while submissions were around for thousands of years, they really weren't around to be used on battlefields, especially in Europe where there was superior weaponry and armor, they would mainly use a takedown to use their weapon to kill someone on the ground if they were armored, if they were unarmored then it doesn't even get to a grapple.
