Almost ready for a new board. Im between getting another 7.75 or getting new trucks and something like 8.1. Only thing about 7.75 is no board has a longer wheel base than 14 inches.

You just push your rear foot down and pop the board, while sliding your front foot up to the nose. Thence lift your rear foot while leveling the board with your front foot. This is probably a bait thread but if not, now you know how to Ollie.
>>
>>195506
I wonder if anyone in the history of skating has heard that advice and then suddenly could Ollie.
>>
Not OP but I’m having a hard time with it too. My problem is in my pop, I’m either jumping off the tail resulting in me getting air but the board only coming up 2-3 inches. Or when I try to jump first then pop as my body weight leaves the board it totally kills the power of my jump and I barely come off the ground
>>
>>195506
knowing the steps to a trick isnt the same as learing how to do the steps
>>
lmfao all these fuckers are lying to you

you have to have already jumped milliseconds before the pop occurs

basically pretend its sf and ur sagat and ur regular so tiger knee happens with leading left knee
>tiger knee (+kick)
>pop happens behind you (your right foot taps the ground very rapidly using your ankle and calf)
>you've already tiger knee'd so the leading foot is dragging up as the board comes into your foot *
>lift your back mother fucking foot as soon as your ankle snaps, tuck that back knee into your shoulder as you tiger knee

boom city trashcans are your bitch

So I've been trying to get the balls to attend a gym that does freestyle and Greco wrestling. It took a lot to go to it as I know it's the toughest sport, and I'm not "young".

Twice now I have managed to gather up all my strength and start making my way to the gym, only for freak occurances (train literally going straight past the station, train being delayed for an hour) which left me unable to get there on time

I'm just wondering if any of you had the same sort of issues when you started training. Was the universe basically telling you to stay away but you persisted? Feel like im pushing my luck trying to go a third time lmao

Thank you for reading

I take signs from God as they come

Like I have a few cars needing repairs laying around so my drive way is full and I have to park one on the street at night next to a hydrant
Been doing this for almost a year a this point and then 2 days ago a guy randomly comes to the front door and says "I see there's no plates on that jeep in the drive way, I'll give you $400" for it
So I sold it to him and now I can park in the drive way
Then last night wouldn't you know it ther was something going on at the neighbors house and the fire department came and needed to use that hydrant which I had been blocking for months
>>
>>195556
Wow that's lucky. it's weird the universe didn't stop me from going to judo or BJJ even though I did not enjoy those and only went for three sessions yet wrestling it just seems to not even want to let me go once

Not doxxing myself but near a major city, there are exactly 2 pure wrestling gyms (too far away for me) and 1 martial arts gym that does 2 wrestling classes a week

There are MMA gyms located more frequently that do striking/bjj/wrestling but usually only one class a week and very expensive. It's rare here and I still have to travel close to an hour to reach my nearest one

Also we don't have any school or college wrestling here.

Was training muay thai in class with my friend. Got my kick caught and he pulled. When I was hopping in my grounded foot, I landed funny, felt something in my knee like a pop and collapsed. No swelling at all, feels weird and tingly. Hurts when I attempt to walk on it. Doctor claims only meniscus tear but nurse told me the doctor half asses his job. Going to try to schedule an MRI.

Riding season started above the equator Edition

FAQ on buying a bike that nobody reads anyway:
> What good bike can I get for under $500?
a stolen bike. Possibly a newer used entry level hardtail but don't expect it to survive rock gardens, jumps, or drops. Or an older mtb which won't be as good as newer ones and will still have a front derailleur, but it'll be good enough.
> What good bike can I get for under $1000
Good used hardtail, new entry level hardtail
> What good bike can I get for under $2000?
New Hardtail, decent used full suspension
> What good bike can I get for under $3000?
https://www.yt-industries.com/fr/produits/velos/capra/uncaged-10-al/602/capra-mx-uncaged-10/
Used full suspension, decent entry level full suspension but prepared to put more money into it.

This is pretty subjective - different manufacturers will have different sizing, and you may prefer smaller or larger frames. The only real way to find out what would be best for you is to try different sizes yourself.

You should see if there are any mtb events coming up near you soon. Usually bike brands will show up with demo fleets to let you try the bikes on nearby trails for free to get a feel for their handling/sizing.

Riding is for fun, I'm just vibing. I'm not going to treat it differently to get more fit or ride because I feel like I'm "supposed" to.
>>
>>195160
Ride to get /fit/ to ride more. I will hit the campus gym to go run a few miles and go lift occasionally. These past few weeks I've just been getting out 2-4 times a week about 2hrs at a time and getting better at jumping. I can almost land a jump into a manual now which feels super steezy. I also learned how to do a rear wheel hop backwards which felt surprisingly natural. I need to increase the amount of hops I can do.

>This is something I don't believe.
I think the major driving factor behind it is that it's the cost getting you a good brand of tyre. I've never used them because I don't live near manicured bike parks, but a $60 tyre I can put Cushcore inside and shred the shit out of it for a weekend sounds like a decent plan to save my "good" tyres for downhill. But as I said, I've never used them, I've only heard people talking about them.
Yea, I've found a national seller online for a reasonable price, and I don't mind bikeinn, but it's just that bikeinn takes a month to ship to Australia lmao.

>>195561
I was looking at the spread of tyres on bicyclerollingresistance.com, and the Michelins looked like they had good tread and puncture resistance. Have you got any recommendations for gravel bike single track tyres? The tracks I ride have a bit of rock jank. Schwalbe g-ones seem to get a really good review too, I used to have them but didn't really ride them too hard, I'd be looking at the Superground for sure if I went back to them. Currently on Maxxis ravagers, which was totally inappropriate for what I was doing anyway kek

just thinking about the time when I'm stuffing a shot by pushing down on the back of the head, and for context I'm just a stuff master like unless your wrestling level is legitimately good, not just bjj good but wrestling good, don't even try it because you aint getting my legs

anyway so I stuff a shot and then a crusty middle aged TRT juice junky black belt with coffee breath tells me my completely successful stuff was wrong "you gotta do it like this" and he proceeds to show a C grip on the back of the neck to push the head down
objectively he's wrong, but gotta be respectful and not argue "ok thank you"

then I stuff another shot later on and he's in the peanut gallery HEY YOU'RE NOT DOING WHAT I TOLD YOU!
ok..
so then for the rest of class I had to do it the wrong shitty way he insisted upon and wouldn't you know it, I wasn't stopping the singles anymore

The most powerful brand of sumo there is - to step in the dohyo and not even notice that your opponent is there.

Not sure if this is supposed to go on /xs/ or /sp/, but what do you think of the sport? All I see on here is HEMA.

I'm trying to get into it and I'm looking to pick up some gear. I probably want to fence Epee. Any recommendations? The club has gear, but a lot of it is gross and sometimes not working, especially for left handed stuff.

Zip code kung fu. This is the ancient art of having good income, living in low-crime areas, and staying far away from shitty people. You won't want to hear this but it's true. If you are actually serious about staying safe and avoiding violent crime, get the hell out of the ghetto. Yes this hard. Yes this will take superhuman effort. Yes you will need to shovel yourself out of generations of shit. However, this is 1000% more effective than "learning to fight real good."

BTW if you have the income to live in a decent neighborhood, the cost of gym dues, expert coaching, and weapons is probably trivial next to the cost of your mortgage. It is brutally unfair, but it'a true.

My particular brand of karate based on the traditional Okinawa style through a modern lens is the best but in the absence of having me able to teach you explore the principles of Greco-Roman + strikes + just stand up
It is certainly NOT boxing or some such thing

The key is to control the hand fighting and distance, use your hands and elbows to strike inside the Clinch
Use your legs to target the lower body with stomps and ashiwaza

You will use your hand fighting to pepper him with pot shots in order to set up big throws that put him down and keep you standing, then stomp him out of it calls for it

I've done modern/sport martial arts in the past, I've done traditional arts, I've done the gay, modern self-defence stuff, and I recently started at a dojo that does a very strict, traditional form of Okinawan Karate.
I'd say you really need a mix of the lot. There are too many blindspots between them, but they all have their strengths, as well.

>- What is ESSENTIAL to have and to understand regarding Self Defense?
Learn about the places you are going to, learn about what not to do, learn how to deescalate situations, always inspect the people around you and read the room, be aware of closed spaces, pay attention to where doors are, learn how to use your environment and every day objects around you as basic fighting tools, maybe even carry non-letal stuff like tasers, flashlights, etc.. If you do have the opportunity to run without the guy following or throwing/shooting something at you, do it, leave as soon as possible. If you do get into a fight, when it's over and the faggot leaves, leave the place immediately, he might come back with even more faggotry. If you do get caught by someone and he has buddies, use everything around you in your favor, throw things, use everything to put distance between you and them, get them in a line or something, be the most dangerous prey you can be, but remember, anything you use against them, can be used against you, in fact, you are giving them a reason to use it. So only do it if you feel that might end the conflict. As far as actual fighting goes, be very direct, keep it simple, keep kicks to a minimum as not to lose your base, and when done, get the fuck out. Refrain from using lethal force if not needed, you might ruin your life. And lastly, use all the prejudice inside you to judge your potential opponents, it's better to feel judgmental and sorry later than feel regret after getting your ass beat or hurting someone badly.
>- What is the best Martial Art or the combination of Martial Arts for Self Defense?
Most conflicts start with hands, so Boxing, Muay Thai, MMA with some adjustments due to no-glove is a good base, add some Wrestling/Judo/BJJ to the mix for grappling defense, and learn some armed combat stuff, maybe do some studies with objects around you, even a broom can teach you a lot

At the end of the day, the best self-defense is not needing it.
